چکیده

ABSTRACT We use the Sherwood–Relics suite of hybrid hydrodynamical and radiative transfer simulations to model effect inhomogeneous reionization on 1D power spectrum Lyman α (Lyα) forest transmitted flux at redshifts 4.2 ≤ z 5. Relative models that assume a homogeneous ultraviolet background, suppresses small scales, k ∼ 0.1 km−1 s, by ∼10 per cent because spatial variations in thermal broadening kernel divergent peculiar velocity field associated with overpressurized intergalactic gas. On larger $k\lt 0.03\rm \, km^{-1}\, s$, is instead enhanced 10–50 large-scale neutral hydrogen fraction. The must therefore be accounted for analyses forthcoming high precision measurements. provide correction Lyα 4.1 5.4 can easily applied within other parameter inference frameworks using similar models. perform Bayesian analysis mock data assess extent systematic biases may arise measurements medium if ignoring this correction. At scales probed current high-resolution > 4, $0.006 \le 0.2 \rm we find does not introduce any significant bias recovery measurement uncertainties cent. However, 5 uncertainties, ∼1σ shifts between estimated true parameters occur.

The Power Spectrum of Mass Fluctuations Measured from the Lyman-alpha Forest at Redshift Z=2.5

We measure the linear power spectrum of mass density fluctuations at redshift z = 2.5 from the Lyα forest absorption in a sample of 19 QSO spectra, using the method introduced by Croft et al. (1998). The P (k) measurement covers the range 2π/k ∼ 450 − 2350 km s (2 − 12 comoving hMpc for Ω = 1), limited on the upper end by uncertainty in fitting the unabsorbed QSO continuum and on the lower end ...

Inferring the Linear Power Spectrum from the Lyman-α Forest

We discuss the determination of the linear power spectrum of dark matter fluctuations from measurements of the transmitted flux Ly-α Forest power spectrum. We show that at most scales probed by current measurements, the flux power spectrum is significantly affected by non-linear corrections to the linear dark matter power spectrum due to gravitational clustering. Inferring the linear dark matte...

Constraints from the Lyman Α Forest Power Spectrum

We use published measurements of the transmission power spectrum of the Lyman α forest to constrain several parameters that describe cosmology and thermal properties of the intergalactic medium (IGM). A 6 parameter grid is constructed using Particle-Mesh dark matter simulations together with scaling relations to make predictions for the gas properties. We fit for all parameters simultaneously a...

The Lyman - α forest opacity and the metagalactic hydrogen ionization rate at z ∼ 2 − 4

Estimates of the metagalactic hydrogen ionization rate from the Lyα forest opacity in QSO absorption spectra depend on the complex density distribution of neutral hydrogen along the line-of-sight. We use a large suite of high resolution hydrodynamical simulations to investigate in detail the dependence of such estimates on physical and numerical parameters in the context of ΛCDM models. Adoptin...
